Tianeptine Restrictions
Tianeptine is a compound mostly known in research circles as an atypical tricyclic antidepressant. However, it is still undergoing research and clinical trials to understand its interaction with opioid receptor activity. Hypothesized to potentially stabilize glutaminergic signaling and exert opposing effects on N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) and aminomethylphosphonic acid (AMPA) receptors. These potential interactions are believed to potentiate anti-depressive effects on test subjects.
Throughout Europe, Asia, and Latin America, Tianeptine has gained a lot of attention for its ability to treat conditions such as depression, pain, asthma, and anxiety. However, along with its massive potential comes its controversial nature due to the potential risk of abuse and harmful side effects. As a result, Tianeptine has been restricted or outright banned in several states in the U.S. However, it is not federally classified as a controlled substance. Thus,
