Description

Dermorphin

Preclinical and biochemical studies indicate that Dermorphin is a naturally occurring heptapeptide opioid originally isolated from the skin secretions of certain South American frogs (Phyllomedusa species). It is structurally unique because it contains a D-amino acid (D-alanine) at position two, which significantly enhances its biological activity and receptor affinity. Dermorphin has the molecular sequence: H-Tyr-D-Ala-Phe-Gly-Tyr-Pro-Ser-NH₂

This configuration confers exceptionally high selectivity and potency at the µ-opioid receptor (MOR) in experimental systems. The product is investigated on a large scale for laboratory research purposes. Dermorphin is researched for its role in opioid receptor signaling. On the other hand it is also being investigated for its ability to influence pain modulation pathways in experimental models.

Dermorphin is supplied as a high-purity, research-grade peptide, optimized for laboratory research, analytical testing, and controlled experimental applications.

Chemical Properties

  • Molecular Type: Heptapeptide (opioid peptide)
  • Molecular Weight: ~803.9 g·mol⁻¹
  • Chemical Class: Opioid receptor agonist peptide
  • Receptor Target: µ-Opioid Receptor (MOR)
  • Synonyms: Dermorphin peptide, Frog opioid peptide
  • Storage: Store in a cool, dry place. Protect from moisture and light.
  • Intended Use: Laboratory research and experimental studies only

Working Mechanism of Dermorphin in Experimental Models

In different research settings, investigators have found that dermorphin works by binding to and activating the mu-opioid receptors (MORs). These receptors are part of the natural pain-regulation system in research subjects.

  • Upon binding to MORs, dermorphin mimics the action of endorphins, which are endogenous opioids.
  • Researchers have also noticed that dermorphin may activate G-protein-coupled pathways. By activating these pathways, dermorphin blocks adenylate cyclase and reduces the production of cAMP in research subjects.
  • Decreased calcium influx and increased potassium efflux. It may also cause inhibition of neurotransmitter release (like substance P and glutamate) involved in pain transmission.

What are the Potential Benefits of Dermorphin?

Researchers have observed the following benefits of dermorphin in different lab settings.

  • Researched for pain modulation in experimental models
  • High mu-opioid receptor selectivity in research subjects
  • Researched for long lasting effects in analytical models
  • Investigated as high purity product for lab usage
  • Useful for studying opioid pathways in research subjects

What are the Potential Side Effects of Dermorphin?

Long-term research is needed to understand the safety profile of this compound. However, so far, researchers have observed the following side effects of dermorphin.

  • Respiratory depression in research subjects
  • Sedation in research subjects
  • Motor impairment in research subjects
  • Tolerance with repeated use in research subjects
  • Dependency potential in research subjects

µ-Opioid Receptor Agonism

Dermorphin binds with very high affinity to the µ-opioid receptor (MOR). In experimental systems, this binding activates G-protein–coupled receptor signaling, leading to:

  • Inhibition of adenylate cyclase
    • Reduced intracellular cAMP levels
    • Decreased neuronal excitability
