ACTH 1-39, also known as adrenocorticotropic hormone 1-39 or corticotropin, is a peptide hormone that plays a crucial role in regulating the adrenal glands, primarily stimulating cortisol production, with additional effects on adrenal androgens and aldosterone precursors. It is derived from the precursor molecule pro-opiomelanocortin (POMC) and is primarily synthesized and secreted by the pituitary gland in response to signals from the hypothalamus.
